Transportation infrastructure is one of the largest consumers natural materials. To improve environmental quality and sustainable development transportation infrastructure, it important to implement strategies in pavement construction rehabilitation. The use recycled materials a key element generating designs save resources, reduce energy, greenhouse gas emissions, costs. objective this study was propose methodology for assessing economic life-cycle benefits when using asphalt (RAP) highway projects. Previous studies on life cycle analysis (LCA) RAP focused economics and/or impacts during material production process. Thus, there need consider sustainability at all stages rehabilitation performance period structures. This addresses with proposed methodology. suggested approach could be potentially implemented management system (PMS) so as introduce principles optimizing alternative strategies. includes various steps analysis, starting condition assessment existing highway, identifying structural designs, predicting service life, setting up strategies, conducting analysis. demonstrate value methodology, comparative parametric conducted two real case projects representing actual field conditions primary roads Maryland. These were used order quantify savings different levels results indicate that incorporating can contribute substantially cost impact reduction (e.g., emission, water, hazardous waste). illustrated are expected encourage wide adoption transferable where similar techniques used.
